Recent studies have shown that erectile dysfunction may be closely linked with diet and overall health. Erectile dysfunction affects more than 100 million men around the world. This condition is defined as the inability to get or maintain an erection for sexual intercourse. Now, new evidence shows that diet could have a direct impact on erectile dysfunction symptoms.

Food has the ability to affect all tissues in the body, including the penis and testicles. Our food choices also influence the male hormones that regulate reproductive function. Here are some foods that may have a negative impact on your sexual health:

Refined sugars
Sugary drinks and snacks may contribute to erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction is associated with obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and high blood pressure. Regular consumption of refined sugars can eventually lead to these chronic health conditions. To prevent this problem, many experts recommend the Paleo Diet, which eliminates all refined sugar.

Dairy Products
Should the Paleo Diet include milk, cheese, and other dairy products? If you have erectile dysfunction, the answer is probably no. These foods have a number of nutritional factors that can have a negative impact on your sexual health. Dairy products have the potential to increase female hormone levels in the body. Milk also exposes you to exogenous estrogens that may play a role in erectile dysfunction.

Salt
Sea salt has the same adverse effects as table salt. If you suffer from erectile dysfunction, all salt should be avoided. An increasing body of evidence indicates that salt can impair your sexual health. Salt decreases nitric oxide levels in blood vessels throughout the body. Normal nitric oxide levels are required to get and maintain a firm erection. If your goal is to maintain a strong erection for sexual intercourse, you should avoid processed foods that contain salt.

Processed Meats
If you have erectile dysfunction, it’s a good idea to avoid processed meats such as bacon, sausage, salami, bologna, and hot dogs. These foods are incredibly high in salt. They may also contain unhealthy fats that can contribute to erectile dysfunction symptoms. Processed meats also contain preservatives and additives that can be dangerous to your health.

The good news is that there are also foods that can actually benefit men with erectile dysfunction. These foods increase nitric oxide production and promote good sexual health. Some healthy choices include fish, free-range meat, and eggs. The omega 3 fatty acids in these foods stimulate nitric oxide release. Foods high in antioxidant vitamins and minerals also support the release of nitric oxide. Men should eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, which are inherently high in these vital nutrients.

The Paleo Diet is a lifelong program that can optimize your sexual health and wellbeing. If you have erectile dysfunction, you can certainly benefit from eliminating unhealthy processed foods that can lead to a variety of health conditions. The most important foods to eliminate are refined sugars, diary products, processed meats, and salt. These simple changes can go a long way in improving your sexual health.
